La Quete -The Quest

| This is a copy of the article we sent to our
local papers and politicians before we left in our quest for funds. La Quete - The Quest: Dare to Dream A small group of Foreign Language & Culture Molokai High School students have been invited to participate in the National Educational Travel Council 2004 educational tour of England, France and Italy. They have high hopes of attending this 10-day quest of Art, Language, Culture and History and plan to share their firsthand experiences with Molokai's schools in a technologically enhanced presentation, which, will also include an exhibit of each student's Travel Journal. Since the initial invitation to participate, several students have decided not to attend due to the financial requirements of the tour. To raise money, La Quete (The Quest) has so far, held a garage sale and looks more events like a planned "Honkathon" and a "Rubba Ducky Race." Because the students are well aware of how Molokai's community can be over saturated with fundraising events, the students have also sent letters to outside resources and even sent one to Oprah Winfery, asking if she would be willing to help La Quete reach its financial goal. Checks may be made payable to NETC and mailed to c/o Kimberly Rosa (Advisor), P.O. Box 492, Hoolehua, HI 96729. Remember, donations are tax deductible. A TAX ID NUMBER WILL BE PROVIDED UPON RECEIPT OF DONATION! |

This is a copy of the letter we are using to raise funds. Please forward. La Quete -The Quest Moloka'i is a Hawaiian Island in the Pacific and home to a small population. We don't have any freeways, traffic lights, or McDonald Restaurants. A select group of teenagers from this quaint and traditional island have been presented with a most exhilarating opportunity - AN INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION EXPERIENCE! La Quête, a select group of second-year Foreign Language & Culture students from Molokai high school, have been invited to participate in the National Educational Travel Council (NETC) 2004 educational tour of England, France and Italy. On an island with limited jobs and low incomes, it has been difficult to raise funds without further impacting our community. We have high hopes of attending this 10-day quest for Art, Language, Culture, History, Religion, and so much more that we have only seen in books. We plan to share our firsthand experiences with Molokai's elementary and secondary school, as well as with our teachers, peers, families, and other community groups. Will you please help us to reach our goal? We thank you for taking the time to acknowledge our request. If it is possible, we would like to kindly ask for your financial assistance of any amount. Checks may be made payable to NETC and mailed c/o the address below; tax ID number will be provided upon receipt of donation.
